Dr Bruce Ashford MBBS FRACS

 Dr Bruce Ashford is a General Surgeon whose subspecialty practice is Head & Neck and Endocrine Surgery. This includes surgical treatment of thyroid and parathyroid disorders, salivary gland problems, skin cancer and surgery for neck, mouth and jaw cancer.



Originally a Dentist, Bruce then commenced training in Oral Surgery before going to Medical School. After completing his Internship in Ipswich, Bruce then undertook Basic Surgical Training in Darwin before moving to Sydney to complete General Surgery training.

He thereafter completed an Endocrine and Breast Fellowship at St George Hospital, Kogarah, and another year of Head & Neck Surgery at Liverpool Hospital. Finally, he undertook a Head & Neck Fellowship at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, Canada which focussed on microvascular reconstruction following cancer surgery.

Bruce is currently a Consultant Surgeon at both The Wollongong Hospital and Liverpool Hospital, and also works at both Figtree Private and St George Private Hospitals. This includes taking part in the Emergency General Surgery and Trauma on call rosters at these hospitals. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Wollongong and an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Western Sydney.

Dr Ashford's other work interest is with the RAAF. He first joined the RAAF as a Dental Undergraduate and now serves as a General and Trauma Surgeon in the RAAF Specialist Reserve. He has served in Bali, Timor Leste and most recently Afghanistan.

Bruce is passionate about the delivery of high quality surgical care. He is a strong advocate for patients from regional and peripheral areas receiving the best surgical care as close to home as possible, without the need to travel outside the reach of family and friends.
